Advent Calendar – Day 13

December 13, 2010

Hello again snowflakes!

It’s another day and so another door lies before us to look behind. Have you opened your advent calendar today?

Behind our 13th door are a few of the tutorials that the internet has to offer for making yourselves some felt garlands.

1. This first tutorial would be great for using up lots of your felt scraps. I think it would look great on a tree or would be equally awesome strung across the ceiling.

2. This next tutorial is a bit of a twist on the first one. It would be another great use of all your felty scraps.

3. Tutorial number 3 is yet another project that would make a brilliant stash buster!

4. How about a felt holly garland?

5. The last tutorial uses a really simple looking technique to make something that looks fantastic. We love it.

If you’re in the mood to make some of these beautiful things but don’t have enough felt, our ‘Christmas 10 Pack‘ would be well suited to these tutorials and a fine addition to your craft collection.

See you for day 14 tomorrow!

Tutorial: Bunny Finger Puppet

April 10, 2010

Welcome to our first tutorial! This finger puppet is quick to make, is brilliant for using up the odds & ends of your felt stash, and could easily be made by little hands with the help of an adult. It might be a little late for Easter but then a bunny is for life, not just for Easter!

What you’ll need to make your finger puppet:

- A sewing needle, pins & fabric scissors.
- Felt in the colours that you have decided to make your rabbit.
- Sewing thread to match each colour of felt.
- Print out of the template that you will find below.
- Scissors for cutting paper.
- Glue (optional).

Step 1: Print out the template above. Click on the image to view it at full size and print it out. Cut out each piece from the felt you have picked.

Step 2: Sew the inner ear pieces to two of the main ear pieces using thread to match the inner ear colour. These two pieces now become the ear fronts. Sew these to the ear backs using whip stitch and thread to match the felt.

Step 3: Take the nose and eye pieces and sew them to one of the main body parts. If you are doing this with a young child then it may be better to use a fabric glue to stick them on instead. Next, use some black thread to give your bunny a mouth.

Step 4: Take the other main body part and, using whip stitch again, carefully start sewing around the outside of the two main pieces. When you get the near the top of the head remember to insert the ears, securing them between the front and back body pieces. Don’t forget to leave the bottom open as this will be where your finger goes!

Step 5: Enjoy playing with your new bunny finger puppet! Or start making a companion for your bunny!

A Craft Fair & A Tutorial

March 29, 2010

Our first time selling our felt at a fair was a success! We sold some felt, made some contacts and gave out a ton of business cards :D Between customers, we also came up with a fantastic idea that we managed to get all planned out by the end of the day. You will have to wait and see what it is, but we are very excited about making it a reality!

Another idea that we have had from the beginning, is to have some tutorials on the blog to give you some ideas for using our felt. Hopefully, we will get an Easter one done at some point this week, but until then, have a look over here. It is a fantastic tutorial for making a felt book with an egg to decorate on every page. I love it.
