Rainbow Cakes

January 11, 2012 by

We thought it was about time we did another post of rainbow finds, and this time we’ve found loads of rainbow cakes!

First up is this 6 layer birthday cake by Flickr user Conor Keller. It’s a pretty delicious looking rainbow. I love the complete contrast between the brightly coloured inside and the completely plain, creamy outside.

The swirly, rainbow pattern of this cake by Flickr user Better Than Bacon is great.

I love the idea of this monochrome version of a rainbow cake by Steven Depolo.

For those of you on diets, don’t worry, we’ve got something for you too! These rainbow cake earrings are by Miss Matched Shoppe on Etsy and they don’t contain a single calorie. Believe it or not, they are made from polymer clay!

To Facebook or Not to Facebook?

Facebook inspired necklace by Silver Tongue Devil

It seems that the whole world is on Facebook…. except for us! We have a bit of an issue with the privacy on Facebook & so, until now, we have been perfectly happy in our own little, Facebook-free world. As my husband and I are running 3 online shops between us though, we are starting to wonder just how much business we might be missing out on. We are also aware that it would be a wonderful way to build closer relationships with our customers.

So, we would love to hear what you guys think of it, especially those of you who have your own online businesses. What percentage of your sales do you think you get via Facebook? Are we completely crazy to think that we can sell online and not have our business on Facebook? We really believe that our felt is fantastic stuff and we really want as many people as we can to hear about it and start using it. So tell us what you think!

Please feel free to expand on your thoughts in the comments. We are really torn over what we should do here and all your thoughts and opinions will be very much appreciated!

Hello 2012!

Shakespeare confetti by Bookity

So, somehow, we have now found ourselves in 2012! We’ve had a fantastic 2011 and would like to thank all our lovely customers, blog readers and fellow crafters for helping to make it such a good year. We have lots in store for 2012 and it’s looking like we should be in for an even more exciting year! A few things to look out for are:

Felt by the metre

Due to some stock issues with our wholesaler, we unfortunately had to delay our order for felt to stock by the metre. As soon as we hear that they are all restocked then we will get our order in and will finally be able to start offering larger pieces of felt. We’re feeling very impatient so hopefully it won’t be a long wait!

A Restoration Project

We are about to embark on a very exciting project to restore a stone outbuilding so that it can become the fancy new headquarters for The Felted Rainbow. It’s becoming a bit of squeeze to fit all the felt into our craft room so the extra space will be fantastic. We’ll be blogging about the process and providing lots of photos, so make sure you stay tuned if you want to see it happen! The first job is to clear it out as it’s currently full of assorted bits of wood and lots of manure!

More blogging and tutorials

Last year was so busy and blogging took more of a back seat than I’d have liked it to. My first new years resolution is to blog much more often and to finally get round to doing some more tutorials. Please do give me a poke if you don’t see this happening!

A brand spanking new website

Work has begun on a proper website for The Felted Rainbow. We have a fantastic (at least we think so!) vision for the website and we will be busily putting it all together. We can’t wait to have it all ready to go live and to find out what you all think.

So, that’s some of what we have planned so far for this year. What are all of you going to be doing?

Felt By The Metre

October 5, 2011 by

Hello felt fanciers & craft addicts! We would like to request your help today & then we would like to reward you for that help!

Our dream for The Felted Rainbow is to one day be a huge emporium, stuffed to the virtual rafters with endless eco craft supplies. The next step on the journey towards that dream, is to start stocking our recycled felt by the metre. We have had many requests for this, so we are hoping that it will prove to be very popular with our lovely customers. First though, we need to decide which colours to stock, and that is where you guys come in! We’d like your help in deciding which of the 34 colours would be the most popular.

Just leave us a comment letting us know which of the colours you would most like to see us stock. Anybody that leaves a comment earns themselves 10%* off in our shop. Just quote the code FELTOCT11 and we’ll issue a 10% refund. The offer is valid until the end of October.

* Not including p&p.
